In addition to creating a world-wide network of sales and service centers, EMCO’s experts in research and development, calibration and production are dedicated to provide unparalleled quality of product, innovative technology and unsurpassed after sales service.

Say goodbye to conventional magmeter design

Say hello to UniMag

The Magnetic field generated inside a UniMag flowtube

Existing Magmeter Electronics Technology
The history of magmeters began in the 1950’s with Continuous AC technology. These are still used today on noisy media such as slurries due to their high signal strength and exciter frequency. However, they suffer from zero drift due to eddy currents. Pulsed DC techniques were developed with an auto-zero feature to reduce the zero-drift problem of Continuous AC, but they lack the frequency and signal strength of Continuous AC required for problem media.

The New UniMag Technology
UniMag magmeter technology combines the best features of both techniques while overcoming the problems. UniMag magmeters use a patented* Pulsed Hybrid technology, which provides a massive signal strength and high energizing frequency for excellent signal quality, with a unique auto-zero feature. The auto-zero feature makes the UniMag the first magmeter capable of virtually eliminating eddy currents at high exciter frequency for all size magmeters.

Common Problems Solved by UniMag Technology

  • Media Noise
  • Microporosity of seals and liners
  • Flowtube liner failures
  • Corrosive / erosive media effects
  • Effect of media build-up inside flowtube
  • Pulp, dredging or mining slurry, sewage grease and similar noise
  • Severe pipeline vibration
  • Severe cycling of process pressure and/or temperature
  • Low media conductivity
  • Pulsatile flow

Innovative Flowtube Design
Long before the liners in your magmeters deteriorate, the unperceived problem of microporous leakage is degrading accuracy. Fortunately, there’s now a permanent, cost-effective solution when you replace your failed mags, or specify new ones.

Liner Problems Eliminated
Instead of external coils, EMCO’s UniMag’s patented design uses encapsulated solid-state sensors, containing the coils and electrodes. Besides eliminating the need for a troublesome insulating liner, this also means we can build the flow tubes from carbon steel — and even PVC — instead of always expensive stainless steel. Say goodbye to liner problems, along with downtime and expense of pulling out flowtubes for replacement or factory repair.

Field-Replaceable Sensors
If a problem ever does develop, UniMag’s encapsulated sensors can be quickly replaced, without removing the flowtube and without a recalibration. UniMag is the only magmeter that is repairable on-site.

Guaranteed Accuracy — Even With Coated Electrodes
Our uniquely powerful Pulsed Hybrid coil excitation gives you the highest signal-to-media noise ratio available. With UniMag, you get NIST-traceable accuracy that remains “in spec”, even with raw sewage or dewatered sludge, and when the electrodes are permanently coated with sewage grease, algae, calcium carbonate or similar. NO CLEANING NECESSARY.

Powerful Magnetic Field With True Weighted Velocity Sensing
Large UniMag sensors create a magnetic field over the entire flowtube area. The flow signal represents the true weighted velocity of the flowing media and accounts for velocity profile distortion / swirl effects.
